Immature Stages of Bembicinae

Detailed information on immature stages of Sphecidae (Bembicinae) is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that maternal care and feeding continue during 2 weeks that are required for the larva to reach maturity.  The number of prey (flies) provided for each larva is dependent on its size.  The eggs are deposited in the cells and provisions are usually brought in only after the larva has hatched, although some species place the egg on a single victim in the bottom of the cell.  The brood tended by each female may include several larvae.
